Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus

What is the Campus

Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus is a university setting entirely devoted to nutrition and food sciences offering EHEA bachelor's and university master's degree courses, with a research dimension coordinated by the Nutrition and Food Safety Research Institute (INSA) of the University of Barcelona. It also runs transfer and communication activities geared to all productive sectors and society in general.

The project

Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus is a University of Barcelona's project aimed to promote such an emerging sector, in which University has achieved a great recognition in both academic and scientific fields, as well as in welfare-related activities and relations with the productive sectors and institutions.

Torribera premises

The Torribera area is a 84-acre site owned by the local administration of Diputació de Barcelona, located north of the neighbour city of Santa Coloma de Gramenet and on the mountain side of the Serralada de Marina Park. It is next to Torre Pallaresa, and in a straight line it joins Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona's Biomedical Campus and the university hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, also going past the historical monastery of Sant Jeroni de la Murtra.

Campus structure

University of Barcelona's campus in the Torribera site (property of Diputació de Barcelona) is named Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus and consists of four pavilions and a 1.400 m² greenhouse installation. Each building hosts a different range of activities within the global academic activity of the campus.

Organizational model

Torribera's campus was born in the early 2000's decade as a brand new concept, taking profit of the historical UB's experience at both organizational and sectorial levels. That's why, once the agreement with Diputació de Barcelona was signed in 2007, UB found itself in real need to move towards the new organizational model of the recently instituted Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus, which represents the sixth university campus of the UB.

University campus of Santa Coloma

In 2003 the city of Santa Coloma de Gramenet signed, in conjunction with Diputació de Barcelona and University of Barcelona, the location of university studies around a UB campus with the firm conviction that, through university-city interaction revolving around the knowledge in the food sector, both UB and Santa Coloma would gain clear benefits. Besides, the integration of University of Barcelona made possible thinking about a future arrival of other projects in Santa Coloma's university campus.
