Lourdes Carbonell

Lourdes Carbonell Bardera graduated in Pharmacy at the Universitat de Barcelona (1980). In 1984 she joined the Department of Pharmacology at the Medicine School (Universitat de Barcelona) as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology. She obtained her PhD under the supervision of Dr. P. Puig-Parellada; her study was focused on the oxygen free radicals in respiratory distress (1989). In 1989 obtained the master degree in Pharmacology (Universitat de Barcelona). In 1991 she completed a postdoctoral stage at the Laboratory of Physiology at the University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse (France) led by Dr. S. Mitjavila to learn about the significance of oxygen free radicals on mitochondrial system. By joining again as an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacology, Universitat de Barcelona, she joined the research group led by Prof. F. Forn dedicated to study the mechanism of action of lithium in the central nervous system. Since 2003 she is Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the same department. In 2005 she joined the Unit of Pharmacology at the Department of Pathology and Experimental Therapeutics (Universitat de Barcelona) led by Dr. E. Planas as Associate Professor, continuing the line of research about lithium's action. Since 2008 she is member of the Neuropharmacology and Pain Research Group. She retired in September 2017.
