Josep Maria Arnau

Josep Maria Arnau graduated in Medicine and Surgery at de Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1977). He obtained his Ph.D. in 1982, at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona under the supervision of Prof. J.R. Laporte. He is specialist in Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology (training at the Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron 1978-1983; Barcelona) and worked as a Clinical Pharmacologist in the Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron from 1984 to 2007 (Clinical Pharmacology Service and Catalan Institute of Pharmacology); in 1990 he joined the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona as an Associate Professor of Pharmacology. Throughout this period he focused on drug selection /drug information services and pharmacoepidemiology (drug utilization studies, pharmacovigilance and clinical trials). In 2007 he moved to Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge to be the head of the Clinical Pharmacology Service and to join the Department of Pathology and Experimental Therapeutics at the Universitat de Barcelona as an Associate Professor of Pharmacology. In 2008 he joined to Dr. Francisco Ciruela on the creation of the Neuropharmacology and Pain Research Group. At present his main research focus is pharmacoepidemiology and he is the head of the Clinical Research and Clinical Trial Unit of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL); this unit is a member of SCReN (Spanish Clinical Research Network, member of the european ECRIN network).
