On May the 24th, 2016, Jessica Andrea Ordóñez Cuenca successfully defended her doctoral thesis, entitled “Three Essays on migration and labor market in Ecuador” supervised by Dr. Raúl Ramos Lobo and Dr. Vicente Royuela Mora, in the Sala de Graus of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Universitat de Barcelona.
The doctoral committee was composed of Dr. José Luis Roig Sabaté (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Dr. Adolfo Maza Fernández (Universidad de Cantabria) and Dr. Alessia Matano (Universitat de Barcelona), who decided to grade the PhD thesis with an “Excellent” mark.
Jessica´s dissertation consists of three essays, which analyse the determinants of internal migration in Ecuador (1982-2010). In addition, she studies the effect of international immigration and internal migration, inter and intra-regional, on the natives labour market. Finally, she analyses the employment situation of international immigrants and returning emigrants: Evidence for Ecuador from 2012-2014.
