Plaça Reial

Throughout the nineteenth century, various actions were promoted to reform the historic centre. Public spaces were created, such as the Plaça Reial, occupying the site of the old Capuchin Friary, which had been established there in 1718. The square, consisting of a group of uniform buildings with a porticoed ground floor, was designed in 1848 by the architect Francesc Daniel Molina. Later, the Three Graces Fountain was added, together with the street lamps commissioned from Antoni Gaudí by Barcelona City Council in 1878.
