Faculty of Medicine - Hospital Clínic

Once the Historic Building had been constructed, all teaching began to be given there in 1871, except for courses in Medicine, which continued, as they had since 1843, in the old Santa Creu and Sant Pau Hospital in Carrer del Carme. Work on the new building, which was to replace the old hospital, began during the 1890s, but it was not opened until 1906. This new building, designed by Josep Domènech Estapà on the left of the Eixample, housed the new Faculty of Medicine and Hospital Clínic. It occupies a space equivalent to two blocks of houses and consists of a central area, including the Faculty of Medicine, with a monumental façade overlooking Carrer de Casanova and various separate pavilions linked by bridges.
