The Immaculate Conception (I)
University coat of arms with the image of the Immaculate Conception. Tapestry from the late seventeenth century or early eighteenth century, hanging above the upper landing of the Rector’s Office de Office in the Historic Building.
At the end of the seventeenth century, the Studium Generale of Barcelona was officially dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. When the Studium Generale was closed in 1714 and the University of Cervera was founded, the successor institution was also put under the protection of the Immaculate Conception and her image was added to its coat of arms and incorporated in the new premises that Philip V ordered to be built. The University of Cervera retains another identical tapestry, which can be found today in its former library.
