Submission of the Thesis
Formats of submission:
Classical Submission:
Theses registered according to the former doctorate rules can be submitted in a classic format.
Theses registered in this program can also be submitted in a classic format, but students must have generated an original publication (or, at least, have the acceptance for a publication), over the past five years before the submission of the thesis, as a first or second author, in an indexed journal/magazine placed at least in the two first quartiles of their subject area.
Submission as a compendium of articles:
The following requirements must be fulfilled:
The submitted Publications must belong to the same subject area.
Will be only accept works published or accepted for publication within the five years previously the submission of the thesis.
- PhD student must provide at least two original papers (published or accepted for publication), of which he/she must be the author. In one of these papers, the student has to be the first author. The magazines where the articles are published must be indexed and, at least, one of them ought to be in the two first quartiles of their subject area, and the other in the third one maximum.
- The thesis must include a general introduction and a specific one for each paper, explaining the objectives and the results. Finally, there must be a discussion about the obtained conclusions.
- The papers provided for the Thesis report in which the PhD student appears as the first author cannot be used as parts for the text of no other thesis.
- None of the co-authors of the articles submitted as part of the text for the thesis will be able to be member of the Committee for the assessment of Thesis
Once the Commission of the Medicine PhD program has checked that all criteria are fulfilled, they will deliver a favourable report that must be submitted to the Doctoral Committee of the Faculty, who finally authorizes the submission of the thesis as a compendium of articles.
Submission in foreign languages:
As for the usable language, a part from the two languages of use in the UB, any other languages of common use in scientific or technical areas can be accepted, as long as it is reasonably justified.
If none of the two languages of use in the UB are used in the Thesis, it is needed to attach a summary written in one of these languages. This abstract should allude accurately to the contents of the thesis, and this can be achieved with a certain length (we recommend not to write less than the tenth part of the original project). The summary needs to include an introduction (where the objectives are defined), the obtained results, the discussion and conclusions.
Required Documents for the submission of the thesis
As a specific requirement of the program, before the submission of the thesis, it's needed to enter into the IT Application all related publications as well as the formative stays abroad. In case of forgetting the passwords, they can be asked in doctoratmedicina@ub.edu.
As for the rest of documents to provide, it is possible to check a guide for the submission of the thesis that the Doctoral Committee of the Faculty of Medicine has drawn up. In this guide, the required documents are linked.
