“Doctor Europaeus” Mention

1.-Requirements

To obtain the “Doctor Europaeus” mention from the University of Barcelona it's needed to fulfill the following requirements (apart from the ordinary proceeding for the submission, deposit request and defense of the doctoral thesis):

1. Before the public reading, there must be favorable reports from two teachers of two higher education institutions from two European countries (different from the one where the thesis will be defended) which will count towards the Thesis.

2. At least one of the members from the Thesis Committee has to belong to a higher education institution from a European country (different from the one where the thesis will be defended).

3. Part of the thesis defense has to be done in a national European language, different to the two official languages in Catalonia . The fulfillment of this condition shall be certified by the president of the committee for the thesis defense.

4. PhD students must do part of their thesis in another European country, within a stay of at least three months. The fulfillment of this condition shall be certified by the institution's director of the European country where the stay has taken place.

European countries and languages mentioned above are referred to any of the European countries, not only the ones belonging to the European Union.

Extraordinary expenses arising from the implementation of this Mention will be paid by department responsible of the thesis.

2.- Procedure: application and awarding

Within a period of three months maximum from the date of the reading of the thesis and its approval, PhD students will be able to apply for awarding the “Doctor Europaeus” mention. They must hand in the Secretary of Students and Teaching of the Faculty of Medicine (Casanova, 143) the required documents mentioned in the first point of these rules.

The applications will be resolved by the Doctoral Committee of the Faculty.

3 .- Mention Diploma of “Doctor Europaeus”

A certified diploma will be issued to PhD Students who obtained this mention.
