ACCESS WITH FOREIGN DIPLOMAS

Students with foreign diplomas will have to previously obtain homologation of their foreign diploma in the Ministry of Education and Science.
Nonetheless, the students interested in having access to the programme without previous homologation of their diploma in medicine, engineering or architecture obtained in a university or a centre of higher education will require express authorization from the rector of the university (delegated by the Dean of the Faculty) prior to admission.

The application must be presented to the Students and Teaching Secretary of the Faculty of Medicine and this must be addressed to the rector and accompanied by the original diploma or a legally authorized copy, and a photocopy for certification as well as an academic certificate of the studies performed. For the application the paths of document legalization and translation may be consulted.

THESIS DIRECTORS FROM OUTSIDE THE UNIVERSITY

When the PhD student requests that the director of the thesis be from outside the university authorization from the Commission of the Programme  must be requested and the curriculum of the director indicated should be included.

RECOGNTION

(PENDING REGULATION) Recognized students must be registered within the established registration period.

The application for recognition must be presented to the secretary of the Faculty accompanied by the accredited certificate and the programme of the material which the student wishes to be recognised.

REGISTRATION OF THE DOCTORAL THESIS PROJECT

The doctoral thesis project must be presented during the first course of the investigation period before a Commission made up of:

●Three PhD members of the Doctorate in “Medicine” Programme
●An evaluator from outside the university selected from among a panel of experts in the field who do not participate in the Doctorate Programme

The acceptance of the thesis project constitutes the commitment of the relationship between the PhD student and his/her director. The Commission of the Doctorate in “Medicine” Programme will ensure effective supervision of the PhD student.

MODIFICATION OF THE REGISTRATION OF THE DOCTORAL THESIS

If there is a significant change in the title or in the director or co-director of the project during the undertaking of the doctoral thesis an application of modification must be completed and sent to the Students and Teaching Secretary of the Faculty of Medicine.

THESIS PRESENTATION

The thesis may be presented to the Commission of the Doctorate Programme in
classical format or as a compendium of publications if the Commission agrees
to the use published studies as a part of the test of the thesis.

Classical presentation:

The theses registered according to the previous doctorate regulations may be
presented in the classical format.

The theses registered in this programme may be presented in classical format
but as a publication as the first or second author in an indexed journal situated
at least among the two first quartiles of the area of knowledge must have been

Presentation as a compendium of articles:

The following requisites must be fulfilled:
● The publications presented must correspond to the same subject unit.
● The PhD student must provide a minimum of two studies of which he/she is
author. In one of these studies he/she must be the first author. The journals in
which these studies are published must be indexed journals and at least one
must be within the first two quartiles of the area of knowledge and the other
should be within the third quartile.

●The thesis must include a general introduction and the presentation of each of
the studies as objectives and results. Finally there must be a discussion
together with the conclusions achieved.
● None of the co-authors of the studies presented as a part of the thesis may
be a member of the jury which will judge the thesis.

Once the Commission of the Doctorate in “Medicine” Programme has ensured that these criteria are fulfilled, a favourable report will be made which will be submitted for consideration to the Doctorate Commission of the Faculty which will give the authorization for the presentation of the doctoral thesis as a compendium of publications.
