The volume Papeles del crimen. Mujeres y violencia en la ficción criminal, edited by Maria Xesús Lama, Elena Losada, and Dolores Resano, is out. This publication belongs to the CRIC (Construction and Representation of Cultural Identities) collection. The book launch will be chaired by Francesco Ardolino, director of the collection, who will discuss the volume with Maria Xesús Lama and Elena Losada. They will also read some extracts. The three of them are all Lectures of the Departamen de Llengües i Literatures Modernes i d'Estudis Anglesos at the Universitat de Barcelona.
The volume includes several perspectives on the two-sided relationship between violence and women, as well as other forms of violence that are represented in the criminal genre produced by women. How are the women who suffer or commit violence represented in criminal fictions? How are the criminal acts perpetrated and legitimized by women in self-defense, and under what circumstances are these increasingly abundant and visible characters justified? How do these new characterizations contribute to destabilizing traditional binarisms such as those of victim/executioner or law/crime in a gnomic system where crime is considered exceptional in a—supposedly—democratic system with a theoretically respected legal framework?
