Dra. Vayá (AQR-Lab from UB) will present the study about the economic impact of cruises carried out by Port of Barcelona
On Thursday April 28, 2016 at the Casa Llotja, 10.30 hours, the Study of the economic impact generated by the activity of Cruises of Barcelona Port will be presented.
The event will be chaired by the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, Mr. Miquel Valls, the president of the Port of Barcelona, Mr. Sixte Cambra, one of the authors of the study and member of AQR-Lab, Dr. Esther Vayá, Minister of Business and Knowledge of the Regional Government of Catalonia, Mr. Jordi Baiget and Ms. Gala Pin, Participation and District Councilor and Councilor for Ciutat Vella.
The study commissioned more than one year ago to AQR-Lab Laboratory, and with the collaboration of Tourism of Barcelona, shows that the sector keeps nearly 7,000 jobs. In addition, it concludes that the activity of Cruise of Port of Barcelona:
Generates an annual turnover of 796 million euros in Catalonia (2.2 million daily).
Contributes to the GDP of Catalonia in 413 million euros.
Generates 152 million euros of tax revenue.
Maintains almost 7,000 full time jobs.
Provides connectivity flights to Barcelona airport and economic stability in other parts of the city.
Not only benefits the sectors linked to tourism but also other industrial and service sectors.
Corresponds to a profile of cruise passengers who usually travel in pairs, with considerable interest to know the city and is a good prescriber (90% want to return and recommend to friends and acquaintances).
