Joana Masó, researcher at ADHUC-Teoria, Gènere, Sexualitat, has recently edited the first volume in Spanish language of Teatro de gitanos y de la vida, by Catalan writer Juli Vallmitjana (1873-1937). This volume, with a prologue by Joana Masó, is the result of a critical edition by Ignasi-Xavier Adiego and a translation by Marçal Font i Espí. It includes a selection of Vallmitjana's theatrical works -Los churdeles, Los zin-calós (Los gitanos), La gitana virgen and La mala vida- and a conference-essay, Criminalidad típica local, originially published between 1910 and 1930, in radical contemporaneity with historical European vanguards. This volume also includes previously unedited images and epistolar documents, and Fernand Baldensperger's essay La entrada patética de los gitanos en las letras occidentales (1933) as an epilogue. The research that has resulted in this volume has taken place within the framework of the project Nuevas visiones de la comunidad / Nuevas identidades gitanas, híbridas y sexualizadas.
