Narratives and material culture around the Modern woman - "Edad de Plata" and "Belle Époque"
Universidad de Sevilla
Calle Palos de la Frontera, s/n, 41004 Sevilla
What objects and types of femininity appear in the magazines and narratives of the long fin de siècle? How do clothes and fashion intervene in the construction of "modern" feminine, feminist and queer subjectivities? To what extent does hysteria participate in celebrity and spectacle at the fin de siècle? How do texts and representations circulate in the publishing world and the press? The Seminar Narrativas y cultura material en torno a la mujer moderna – Edad de Plata y "Belle Époque", directed by Isabel Clúa (ADHUC-University of Seville) and Flavie Fouchard (University of Seville), sets out to study, from a theoretical framework shaped by new materialisms and gender and sexuality studies, how objects intervene in the construction of "modern" subjectivities in Spain, France and Latin America. The speakers include Helena González (ADHUC-University of Barcelona), Alba del Pozo (ADHUC-University of Leeds), María Teresa Vera-Rojas (ADHUC-University of the Balearic Islands), Margarita Merbilhaá (CONICET-Universidad Nacional de La Plata) and Inmaculada Illanes (University of Seville).
The seminar will have a hybrid format (face-to-face and online). Those who wish to obtain a certificate of attendance must attend 80% of the sessions and previously register by sending an email to: gima202327@gmail.com specifying their type of attendance.
