The Department of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Barcelona is placed to host the 10th Biennial International Conference of the Infrared and Raman Users Group.
University of Barcelona can look back on 599 years of history. It is one of the most important public institution of higher education and also the first center of university research in Spain.
This university offers, 64 EHEA bachelor's degree courses, 6 second-stage degree courses, 146 university master's degree courses, 71 doctoral programs, 338 postgraduate programs to its 9200 student and it is supported by 5000 professors, lecturers and researchers.
The Department of Analytical Chemistry is composed by many research groups, one of which is dedicated to the development and application of analytical techniques for characterization of artworks. The group boasts valuable collaboration of important institutions, as well as the Archive of the Crown of Aragon, several local Museums, Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute and others national and international foundations.

The building, a former textile factory belonging to the Casaramona family, was commissioned to the famous architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch (1867-1956), who led an important role in the catalan art-nouveau movement known as "modernisme" alongside Gaudà and Domènech i Montaner. Completed in 1911, it was acquired by "la Caixa" in 1963 that restored it to its former glory in 1992. It is now known as CaixaForum providing social, cultural and educational activities.
