The project aims to analyze the properties of the markets of cereals in the territories of the Catalan domain between the 12th and the 16th centuries, in order to assess the impact of endogenous and exogenous factors both on prices and on the trigger and outcome of shortages, famines and mortality.

Within this general framework, the main objectives of the project are:
1) study both the public and private aspects of the markets of cereals, as well as their material and cultural factors.
2) establish a precise chronology of food crises, as well as their causes, affected areas, intensity and consequences.
3) analyze the response of the institutions and of those affected.
