During good part of its long history, the GGAC has focused on the development of advanced methodologies and techniques aimed at the 3D/4D geological-geophysical characterization of geological structures and sedimentary bodies, both from the point of view of the its formation (the processes that have acted) as well as the resulting geobodies and resulting structures. In this sense, its characterization and understanding, is essential for many uses and studies, especially those focused on the location and quality of natural resources (hydrocarbons, water, gas, etc.), but also in their use as geological reservoirs (e.g. greenhouse gases).
Thus, the accumulated experience of the research group in this area, has allowed the group to focus its research on the future challenges of the society with guarantees, especially those related to three main branches: the energy transition, the climate change and the new energies.
