The Geodynamics and Basin Analysis Group (GGAC) is a research group at the University of Barcelona made up of a multidisciplinary team that brings together researchers from different fields, such as Structural Geology, Geophysics, Sedimentology and Biostratigraphy. The members of the GGAC are, mainly, teachers and researchers who are part of the Earth and Ocean Dynamics Department (both the Geodynamics and Geophysics section, and the Stratigraphy, Paleontology and Marine Geosciences section) of the University of Barcelona (see figure below).
The research activity carried out by the different members of the group was formally recognized from 1994, when the GGAC was recognized by the Comissió Interdepartamental de Recerca i Innovació Tecnològica de la Generalitat de Catalunya (CIRIT) as a Research Group. This recognition was continued in the following calls:
- 1994-1997 (1994SGR01048, 1995SGR00425, 1997SGR00073)
- 1999-2000 (1999SGR00064)
Starting in 2001, thanks to the work carried out until then, the GGAC was recognized as a Consolidated Research Group by the Generalitat de Catalunya, first by the Departament d’Universitats, Recerca i Societat de la Informació (DURSI), and subsequently until now, in all existing calls, by the Agència de Gestió d’Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (AGAUR):
- 2001-2004 (2001SGR00074)
- 2007-2009 (2005SGR00397)
- 2009-2013 (2009SGR1198)
- 2014-2017 (2014SGR467)
- 2017-2020 (2017SGR596)
As a research group, it has participated in numerous projects in collaboration with important companies in the field of hydrocarbons, natural resources and, currently, with companies related to new energies to face the energy transition with guarantees. In addition, the group also works in collaboration with other research groups and geology departments around the world.
