SESSION 9 - Experimental flint knapping
Experimental insights into differential heat impact among lithic artifiacts

In archaeology, it is common to find lithic artifacts that have suffered different types of thermal alterations. The effects of thermal alterations can differ as a result of a wide variety of causes, such as the type of exposure that the flint has undergone or even the characteristics of the flint or blank itself. Here we present an experimental analysis in which different chert flakes were exposed to different types of thermal alteration. This experimentation attempts to evaluate how lithic materials can change within the same site as a result of differential exposure to fire. Attention is also paid to the alteration of technological features and the perception of behaviors, such as recycling.
