Provenancing of archaeological obsidians from prehistoric Romania: the current state of research
This paper reviews the current state of research on the exploitation and exchange of obsidian by prehistoric communities in Southeast Europe. Non-destructive pXRF analysis of obsidian artefacts from seven Epipalaeolithic, Neolithic and Eneolithic sites in Romania shows that some sites have obsidian from more than one source. We attempt to identify the primary sources and discuss the procurement strategies employed.
