Marisa Siguan receives the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany
The professor emeritus of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and of English Studies has received this recognition for her extensive work in relation to the study and dissemination of German literature and culture
The Aula Ramón y Cajal at the University of Barcelona was the scene of the award ceremony of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany to the professor of German Literature and professor emeritus of the Faculty of Philology and Communication, Marisa Siguan The event, chaired by the vice-rector assistant to the rector and of Teaching and Research Personnel of the University of Barcelona, Ernest Abadal, had the participation of the vice-dean of Research and International Relations of the Faculty of Philology and Communication, Josep Solervicens, the coordinator from the Departmental Section of Germanic Studies of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and of English Studies of the Faculty, Loreto Vilar, and the consul general of the Federal Republic from Germany to Barcelona, Dirk Rotenberg.
The diplomat was in charge of handing over the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany to Siguan for his long career in relation to the study and dissemination of German literature and culture.
The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany is awarded to people who stand out for their achievements in the political, economic, cultural, intellectual area or in voluntary work. The decoration was instituted by Federal President Theodor Heuss in 1951. It is the only distinction of a general nature existing in Germany and, therefore, the highest expression of recognition of the Federal Republic of Germany for merits achieved in favor of the common good.
