Director
Presentation
The activities of the Chair in the period 2023-2025 are addressed to training, research results transfer, and scientific dissemination in the development of research and training strategies in the field of complex patients with HIV infection, HCV and other viral hepatitis.
The increasing complexity in the clinical management of HIV patients has led to consider multiples variables in their care such as antiretroviral regimen, adverse effects, drug interactions, comorbidities such as aging, hepatotropic virus coinfections, cardiovascular risk, and renal and bone pathology.
The Chair has a clear multidisciplinary vocation, and it aims to promote research and knowledge transfer in clinical and practical management of HIV patients in a specialized Unit as it is the Day Hospital for Infections of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona-Universitat de Barcelona. The HIV-AIDS unit cares for 6,000 people infected with HIV, the majority receiving antiretroviral treatment. The group also carries out a wide range of research activities, divided into two sides: on the one hand, clinical investigation focused on the efficacy and tolerance of antiretrovirals, resistance mechanisms and opportunistic infections and co-infections. On the other hand, basic research in Retrovirology and Viral Immunopathology, which includes the development of vaccines.
