Presentation
Service learning is a teaching and research project that integrates community service and academic learning, allowing students to train while working on real needs of the community with the objective of improving it.
The UB Chair on Service Learning is focused on the following aspects:
- The need to link academic learning with community service: service learning is not simply the combination of two concepts, but a real and significant integration. Projects must be properly designed to ensure that students learn relevant academic content while contributing to the improvement of their community.
- The importance of involving the community: projects must be co-designed and co-implemented with the community, in order to ensure that they answer its real needs and that students are committed to society.
- The role of the University, which researches and trains to ensure public commitment to addressing the needs of our society: on the one hand, by supporting students and teachers in the design and implementation of quality service learning projects; on the other, by promoting research that enhances these kinds of actions and addresses social challenges.
