Chair of the University of Barcelona-Hospital Clinic for Palliative Care
The Chair of Palliative Care has been set up as an initiative of the University of Barcelona and the Clinical Hospital of Barcelona with collaboration and financing from private entities.
Its mission is to promote undergraduate and postgraduate training in Medicine as well as innovation and research in Palliative Care.

Palliative Care is a comprehensive care approach for people with advanced, progressive and life-threatening diseases. It is aimed at improving their quality of life through expert symptom management and psychological, social and existential support. Palliative care can be given from the onset of the disease alongside therapies that aim to prolong life.
Further research is necessary to better understand and treat clinical complications in the condition of advanced disease. The objectives of the Chair of Palliative Care are:
- Promote training in Palliative Care in the Medicine degree.
- Contribute to postgraduate training in advanced medical skills in Palliative Medicine.
- Create training spaces in Palliative Care by health professionals.
- Collaborate in research and innovation projects in Palliative Care.
The chair is divided into two lines of development: a) oncology line, led by Dr. Albert Tuca; b) non-oncological line, led by Dr. Ferran Masanés.
