Objective This study represents a first approach to obtaining quantitative evidence regarding the use of Catalan and other languages in workplaces, as well as the need to improve the language skills of workers and perceptions of other language-related issues.
Methodology The study was conducted based on information collected through an anonymous-response questionnaire directed at individuals serving as union representatives of the General Union of Workers of Catalonia (UGT) during 2023. The sample collected consists of 935 observations from individuals acting as union delegates and working in workplaces throughout Catalonia, covering all sectors of the three main federations — the Federation of Industry, Construction and Agriculture (FICA), the Federation of Services, Mobility and Consumption (FeSMC), and Public Services (SP) — the Metropolitan Region (Barcelona, l'Hospitalet, Barcelonès Nord, Baix Llobregat, Vallès Oriental, Vallès Occidental, Maresme), and the different territorial unions (Anoia-Penedès-Garraf, Bages-Berguedà, Comarques Gironines, Comarques de Tarragona, Osona, Terres de Lleida, and Terres de l'Ebre).
