International Congress: Gender and Contemporary Arab Artistic Creation Khalaqat

The First Conference on Gender and Contemporary Arab Artistic Creation, خalaqat will take place at the University of Barcelona from November 13 to 16, 2024. This event brings together scholars and artists from various countries and institutions to share current ideas, theories and research on Arab artistic creation from a gender perspective. Participants will explore diverse forms of artistic and creative expression, engaging with new and interdisciplinary methodologies.
Conference panels will be held on November 14th and 15th. The opening keynote will be delivered by Palestinian poet and researcher Lisa Suhair Majaj and the presentations are organized around the following themes:
-Narratives, times and perspectives on the screen
-Museums, festivals and archives: reinventing institutions
-Body, gesture and theory in motion
-Stories from Palestine: shifting imageries of resilience
-Writings and readings from feminism
-Narrating dissidence: memory, social justice and emancipation
-Potentiality and imagination: visual narratives for social transformation
The conference will open and close with cultural activities on the evening of Wednesday November 13th and the morning of Saturday November 16th.
The opening lecture, which will take place on 14 November from 10:15 to 10:45 in the Sala de Professors (C/Aribau, Facultat de Filologia i Comunicació) will be given by Lisa Suhair Majaj, Palestinian-American poet and independent researcher, and is entitled ‘Creativity in a Time of Genocide’.
