Teresa Hoogeveen, who was a predoctoral researcher at Seminari Filosofia i Gènere-ADHUC, will defend her doctoral thesis Françoise Collin: From the Experience of Les Cahiers du Grif to the Difference Between the Sexes as Praxis, co-supervised by Dr. Fina Birulés and Dr. Carmen Revilla (Seminari Filosofia i Gènere-ADHUC).
The thesis weaves Françoise Collin’s (1928-2012) philosophy with the practices and production of the feminist journal Les Cahiers du Grif (1973-1997) to explore Collin’s notion of the difference between the sexes as praxis.
The thesis contributes the first extensive biography of Françoise Collin and includes the history of the journal Les Cahiers du Grif. It proposes that in order to illuminate Collin’s formulation of the difference between the sexes, it is crucial to understand the context in which it was developed as political reflection and practice, specifically that of the women-only group GRIF (Groupe de recherche et informations féministes). It shows that the difference between the sexes is a philosophical and political problem of the first order and expands on Collin’s understanding of the term through her reading of Arendt, especially regarding Collin's emphasis on natality, plurality, the common world, and the symbolic.
