Two New Books by María Teresa Vera-Rojas
María Teresa Vera-Rojas (ADHUC-Universitat de Lleida) has published two new books. On the one hand, she has gathered, edited and written the introduction to “El feminismo no es nuevo”: Las crónicas de Clotilde Betances Jaeger (Arte Público Press, 2020). This volume contains texts published by Betances Jaeger between 1920 and 1940 in New York publications in Spanish such as Gráfico, Artes y Letras and La Prensa, as well as articles published in Puerto Rico and in Spanish anarchist presses. This book contributes to make visible the role of Latin women in the global struggle for right equality.
On the other hand, Vera-Rojas has coedited, with Magdalena López (University of Notre Dame), New Perspectives on Hispanic Caribbean Studies (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020), now available in print and as e-book. This monographic is a compilation of essays on new critical tendencies within Hispanic Caribbean thought through a discussion about the different theoretical perspectives around notions of affect, archipelago thought, deterritoriality, as well as queer experiences and subjectivities. Such eccentric imageries go beyond identity, nationality, mainlandness and colonial epistemologies. As a result of its cultural and historical specificities, the Hispanic Caribbean constitutes a study focus which is crucial when reconsidering current global dynamics.
