Issue 5.1 (2020) of Musas: Revista de investigación en mujer, salud y sociedad, directed byJosefina Goberna-Tricas (ADHUC–Universitat de Barcelona) is now available. The monograph is titled “Empoderamiento, emancipación y autonomía de las mujeres” and has been edited by Pía Rodríguez-Garrido (ADHUC–Universitat de Barcelona).
Defining women's empowerment is not easy, since the term does not have a single, specific sense. Rather, it is a vast concept, hard to specify and involving different meanings. In 1991 Schuler & Hashemi defined it as "a process through which women increase their ability to configure their own lives and their surroundings; an evolution in women's awareness-raising about themselves, their status and their efficacy in social interactions."
This issue deals approaches women's enabling for emancipation in their own lives from a legal and pedagogical perspective. Moreover, it considers how to contribute to this enabling through healthcare while attempting to give an answer to informed choices, or accompanying female victims of violence.
