Book Presentation of “De vidas y virus”, by Rafael M. Mérida, and a New Period for the Series Mujeres y Culturas
c/ Comte Borrell, 22. 08015 Barcelona
The series Mujeres y Culturas-Estudios de género y sexualidad, published by Icaria Editorial, launches its new cover design and incorporates Katarzyna Paszkiewicz (ADHUC-University of the Balearic Islands) as co-director of the series, with Marta Segarra (LEGS-CRNS and ADHUC-Universitat de Barcelona), which consolidates the experience of an important scientific series in gender and sexuality studies. The first volume of this new period is De vidas y virus. HIV / AIDS en las culturas hispánicas (Icaria, 2019), edited by Rafael M. Mérida Jiménez (ADHUC-University of Lleida). Since the eighties, AIDS and HIV have become part of literature, visual arts and drama, as well as audiovisual genres by means of testimonies of pain and anger, thus becoming a critical instrument for multiple activisms. This volume aims to provide a new approach that brings together these discourses and representations as it contextualizes creations and receptions. This work, created by a group of international researches, evaluates the early and current meanings of an epidemic that can be considered the protagonist of an era, as well as a path of political reappropriation of the most combative culture, (anti)model of masculinities and femininities, of ruptures and assimilation, of rebellion and heterodoxies. The book is presented within the program Gent positiva. VIH i sida, relats locals d'una història global, by the LGTBI Centre in Barcelona.
