Mònica Rius-Piniés (ADHUC—Universitat de Barcelona) and Marisa Siguan (Universitat de Barcelona) have edited Ex-Patria. Pensamiento utópico en las literaturas del exilio y la diáspora, a volume that aims at analyzing how the discourses on future and utopic thought go hand in hand with exile and diasporic literature, and the different ways in which these stories can be narrated. The studies that are put together in this book focus on 20th and 21st century authors who were the protagonists of exiles and diasporas trigged by a history characterized by catastrophe. They document the German exile, focusing on the German Jews, the Spanish exile and the contemporary Arabic diaspora. They follow then a certain chronological pattern: beginning with the classic 20th century exiles related with the rise of fascism, the Spanish Civil War, National Socialism and the mass murder of European Jews, as well as current diasporas product of totalitarian governments.
