The doctoral candidate Julia Lewandowska will defend her doctoral thesis, directed by Joanna Partyka (Instytut Badań Literackich, Polskiej Akademii Nauk) and Helena González Fernández, director of Centre de recerca Teoria, Gènere, Sexualitat (ADHUC) – Research Center on Theory, Gender and Sexuality (ADHUC) – at the University of Barcelona, entitled "Escritoras monjas: autoridad y autoría en la escritura conventual femenina de los Siglos de Oro”. The thesis studies the different manifestations of literary authority produced by nuns and devout women writers during the 16th and 17th century and it systematizes the specific models of authorship that can be traced in its literary production. Using an interdisciplinary approximation between cultural studies, feminist theory, gender studies and historical research, this thesis seeks to surpass the understanding of the conventual creation within the delimited margins of the binaries feminine/masculine and religious/lay that place it in a position of resistance and/or marginalization. Also, it attempts to map the literary production written by Spanish nuns as regards the existence of networks, with a positive point of view of community. The research is completed with a biobibliographical annexed document that approaches seventeen Spanish conventual women writers not deeply researched or unknown.
