The doctoral candidate María Teresa Vera Rojas, researcher at Centre dona i Literatura, will defend her doctoral thesis, directed by Marta Segarra (CNRS i Universitat de Barcelona), entitled "Mujer moderna hispana. Feminidad y subjetividad moderna en la prensa hispana de Nueva York (1920-1940)". Using an interdisciplinary aproximation between cultural studies, feminist theory, gender studies and historical research, this thesis goes through the tensions produced by the regulatory strategies imposed by modern North-American life style. It also explores the normalization of hispanic women's identity pursued by colonizers in order to show how the media and the entertainment industry affect the modern experiences of subjectivity of hispanic women.
