The book Differences in Common. Gender, Vulnerability and Community (Rodopi, 2014), edited by Joana Sabadell-Nieto (Hamilton College) and Marta Segarra (Centre Dona i Literatura) is to be presented at the Universitat de Barcelona. The presentation will be headed by Myriam Diocaretz (General Editor of Rodopi's Critical Studies collection) and Elena Luisa Delgado (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Director of the Centro de Estudios California-Illinois at the Universitat de Barcelona), as well as by the editors. This volume engages with the concept of "community", explores its subversive potential from the perspective of heterogeneity and distance in order to avoid totalizing gazes, and examines its philosophical and political aspects from the perspective of gender or vulnerability. The theoretical reflection is complemented by the analysis of literary, filmic and artistic texts which, due to their singularity, avoid commonplace assumptions.
