Marta Segarra, researcher with the Centre Dona i Literatura and coordinator of the UNESCO Chair Women, Development and Cultures, has published the book Escriure el desig. De La Celestina a Maria-Mercè Marçal (Afers, 2013). The author explores the notion of desire from a philosophical, psychoanalytical, and gender perspective. She further analyzes different literary and film representations of the tension between the I and the fascinating or terrible other, moving from the desire to exceed the limits that keep us apart from the other to the desire to possess or annul the other as such. Through the notion of desire, the texts selected for analysis question an idea of the subject defined as a stable and self-sufficient entity, and propose, implicitly, a new conception which implies giving up the illusion of sovereignty and invulnerability.
