Canon y subversión, a monograph that renews studies on the narrative works of Rosalía de Castro

Book

Helena González Fernández, researcher at the Centre Dona i Literatura, and María do Cebreiro Rábade Villar, coordinator of the Rosalía de Castro research group at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, have edited the volume Canon y subversión. La obra narrativa de Rosalía de Castro, as part of the "Mujeres y culturas" series (Icaria, 2012). The introduction by the editors, "Una rueca en los brazos de un atleta", can be read in open access format. The text seeks to offer innovative readings on Rosalía de Castro's narrative production and reflects on her conscience as a writer and on the criticisms of the literary and social institutions of her time. The first section attempts to offer answers, by starting from biographic sources and Rosalian texts, to the question "what is a woman author?". The second part focuses on the utopic, the social criticism and the gothic in her novels. In addition to the editors, the contributing authors are the researchers from the Centre Dona i Literatura Isabel Clúa and Joana Masó, Catherine Davies (The University of Nottingham), Margarita García Candeira (Universidad de Huelva), María Xesús Lama (Universitat de Barcelona), Helena Miguélez-Carballeira (Bangor University) and Dolores Vilavedra (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela). This publication is a collection of the papers given at the seminar "Rosalía de Castro, una musa fecunda", which took place at the Universitat de Barcelona in 2011.
