20th Century Women Philosophers and the Mentor-Disciple Relationship

GRC Creació i Pensament de les Dones

The competitive research project "Filósofas del siglo XX. Maestros, vínculos y divergencias" has been approved. The project's main researcher is Rosa Rius from the Seminari Filosofia i Gènere, of the Consolidated Research Group (GRC) Creació i Pensament de les Dones. The starting point for investigation is the hypothesis that the relationship between female philosophers and their mentors is a privileged area of observation from which to analyze the numerous original and specific contributions of women throughout the history of philosophical thought. The point of analysis is the relationship between the "disciples" of some of the most important philosophers of the twentieth century with their "mentors", as a way of tracing their links and divergences: María Zambrano and José Ortega y Gasset, Simone Weil and Alain, Hannah Arendt and Martin Heidegger, Rachel Bespaloff also with Martin Heidegger, Jeanne Hersch with Karl Jaspers, and Martha Nussbaum with John Rawls. This project is funded by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (January 2012 – December 2015).
