A Past under Construction: The Postcolonial Memory of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco in Contemporary Spanish Literature
The Seminar Philosophy and Gender—ADHUC is organizing the 34th Thesis Workshop. In this new session, the doctoral candidate Andrea Villar del Valle (ADHUC—University of Barcelona) will present the work she is conducting for her thesis project, under the supervision of Mònica Rius (ADHUC—University of Barcelona).
The purpose of this research is to study the representations of the Spanish Protectorate in Morocco (1912-1956) found in contemporary novels written in Spanish and published between 2009 and 2021. The objective is to analyze the construction of memory in relation to the colonial period and examine the ruptures and continuities regarding the hegemonic discourses of Spanish colonialism in the Protectorate. This academic activity ultimately aims to reflect on the need to decolonize perspectives on the past at a crucial moment in its construction, especially considering the popularity of the Protectorate as a setting for narratives committed to addressing the silences of the traumatic national past.
The session will be held virtually and with limited capacity. To attend, it is necessary to register in advance by sending an email to adhuc@ub.edu before October 12. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
