The Filosofia i Gènere—ADHUC Seminar holds the 27th Thesis Laboratory. In this new session, PhD candidate Maria Isern Ordeig (ADHUC—University of Barcelona) will present her research on her thesis project, The eye and the hole. Symbolic relations and narrative functions in 21st-century literary, graphic and audiovisual fictions, under the supervision of Helena González Fernández (ADHUC—Universitat de Barcelona) and Marta Segarra (LEGS-CNRS / ADHUC—Universitat de Barcelona). Through the analysis of several 21st-century fictions, Isern Ordeig studies the relationships that are established between the eye and the hole in order to investigate how these images structure and organize the bodies by constructing different identity attributions, especially those related to gender and sexuality. Furthermore, the thesis aims at exploring if in the hole and its correspondence to the eye it is possible to find tools and mechanisms that allow us to read and write the textualization of the bodies through a logic that avoids domination and exclusion.

The session will be held virtually and with a limited number of participants. In order to participate, it is required to sign up by sending an email to adhuc@ub.edu. Inscription will be granted on a first-come first-served basis until June 25th.
