Mercedes ONTORIA PEÑA holds a PhD in Hispanic Literatures from the Università di Bologna and teaches in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Endicott College in Madrid. She is pursuing a PhD in Artistic, Literary and Cultural Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. In her research she is concerned with the appropriation of home movies as a feminist practice that rescues an alternative account of the family and the social context in which the images were originally filmed. Among other issues, she is interested in the appropriation of this archive as a strategy for the rehabilitation of memory and the subjectivity of the film directors/editors. She is a member and collaborator of the Asociación Mujeres y Cine.
