Diana Battaglia

I am currently an Assistant Professor in Spanish and Latin American Studies at University College Dublin (UCD). I joined UCD in 2017 after working as a Lecturer in Latin American Studies at Queen's University Belfast (QUB) and, prior to that, as a Teaching Assistant and tutor at the University of Leeds, where I also completed my PhD. My research interests lie in the areas of cultural studies, literary and cultural analysis, Hispanic studies, literary theory, gender studies, memory studies, postcolonial theory and comparative literature. In my research work, I primarily explore contemporary Latin American cultural production and the noir genre.  I research contemporary literature and culture focusing on issues of identity and identity politics, hegemonic and counter-hegemonic memory, intercultural exchange and conflict, as well as the power dynamics that affect these issues. I am particularly interested in socially and politically engaged detective fiction, whether in literature, film or television, and in the noir genre set and created during periods of transition and crisis. These elements form the theoretical framework of my research project Memorias de género: el relato de la violencia y la deconstrucción de los roles de género en la novela criminal contemporánea, part of which I will develop at the UB, as this line of research integrates particularly well with the objectives of the Centre de Recerca Teoría, Gènere, Sexualitat.
