The workshop "Elles també opinaven: autores a la premsa ibèrica (1848-1918)", coordinated by Elena Losada, María Xesús Lama and Antonio Terrón (ADHUC-Universitat de Barcelona) aims to read the implicit violence present in the texts of 19th century women writers. On the one hand, the contributions of two almost unpublished women writers will be highlighted: Felip Palma (Palmira Ventós), with poetics of cruelty, and Matilde Cherner, with her theory on the education of women. On the other hand, there will be a reflection on the Catholic jouissance of sacrifice in Concepción Gimeno de Flaquer and the codification of violence in Robustiana Armiño. The closing conference will be given by Arturo Aguirre (Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla), who will address the difficulties of talking about harm, between silence and witness. Other speakers include Susana Bardavío (University of Burgos), Francesco Ardolino (University of Barcelona) and Akiko Tsuchiya (Washington University). The workshop will also serve to introduce the web database of the project "Gender, violence and representation. Los textos de creación en la prensa femenina peninsular (1848-1918)" (GenViPReF-PID2020-113138GB-I00-*MCIN/*AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033).
