Theorizing Affective Masculinities
Todd Reeser, director of the Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh, will offer the seminar "Theorizing Affective Masculinities". By applying the theoretical approach of Deleuze, Guattari and Massumi to examples taken from popular culture, Reeser will demonstrate how affect, understood here as pre-linguistic, can destabilize the normative and hegemonic model of masculinity. Todd Reeser is the author of Masculinities in Theory (2010), "Entre hommes": French and Francophone Masculinities in Theory and Culture (2008), and Moderating Masculinity in Early Modern Culture (2006). The seminar will be given in English and is part of the activities organized by the research project "Homes de ficció: cap a una història de la masculinitat a través de la literatura i el cinema dels Estats Units, segles XX i XXI".
