Roms/Gitanxs: Représentations et Genre
The research centre Teoria, Gènere, Sexualitat (ADHUC) and the Laboratoire d'études de genre et de sexualité-LEGS are the organizers of the Symposium "Roms/Gitanxs: Représentations et Genre", which will take place at the Université Paris 8, on November 24 and 25, 2016. The aim of the symposium is to analyse the construction of the Roma identity, through artistic pieces and socio-political and militant discourses. The hypothesis on which the contributions are based puts forward the analysis of several artistic forms as a response and a solution to the rise of both the symbolic and physical violence that the Roma community –especially its women and sexual minorities– feels. The participants will be: Rodrigo Andrés, Joana Masó, Marta Segarra (research centre ADHUC), Pablo Cáceres, Adina Mocanu (Universitat de Barcelona), Anne-Cécile Caseau, Éric Fassin, Martin Olivera (Université Paris-8), Paloma Gay Blasco (Université Saint-Andrews), Liria de la Cruz (Madrid), Nieves Ibeas (Universidad de Zaragoza), Nathalie Manrique (Università Di Verona), Mélikah Abdelmoumen (writer) and Aurelia Ivan, Gabriela Lupu and Alejandra Riera (artists). This symposium is part of the research project: "New Views on the Community / New Hybrid and Sexualized Roma Identities".
