Opaque violence and agency in the public space. The discourse of women writers in the peninsular women's press (1848-1918)
Call for Papers
The project GenViPReF—Género, violencia, representación. Los textos de creación en la prensa femenina peninsular (1848-1918) MICIN/AEI/10.13039/50110001103 (ADHUC-Universitat de Barcelona) MICIN/AEI/10.13039/50110001103 (ADHUC-Universitat de Barcelona) presents the call for the international conference "Violencias opacas y agencia en el espacio público. El discurso de las escritoras en la prensa femenina peninsular (1848-1918)", which will take place at the University of Barcelona on 17 and 18 June 2024. This conference aims to provide an overview of women's contributions to public debate at a time where press was emerging as a means of social communication for the transmission of ideas in Spain and Portugal, with special attention to the tensions resulting from the structural violence that conditioned their creative and professional activity. The deadline for sending communication proposals to congres.genvipref24@ub.edu is 15 February 2024 and they must include the following data in a single attached file in word or pdf format:
- title
- summary (between 200 and 250 words)
- keywords (between 3 and 5)
- brief bios of the people signing the proposal, including names, institutional affiliations and e-mail addresses
The languages of the conference will be Catalan, Spanish, Galician, Portuguese and English. The date for notification of acceptance is 15 March 2024.
The maximum time for each communication will be 20 minutes. A selection of articles derived from the communications presented will be published by means of peer review.
Registration for presenters will have a cost of €50 for professionals and €20 for students. Registration for attendance will be free of charge.
For participants who cannot attend in person, a section for online communications will be available.
