Marginal Sexualities and Impossible Communities
The international conference "Sexualitats marginades i comunitats impossibles" will be inaugurated with the presentation of the most recent volume in the series Mujeres y Culturas, Minorías sexuales en España (1970-1995). Textos y representaciones, edited by Rafael M. Mérida Jiménez. The presentation will take place at Llibreria Laie and will be hosted by the author, Alberto Mira, Marta Segarra, and Lluís Maria Todó. This conference, coordinated by Rafael M. Mérida Jiménez and Marta Segarra, seeks to reflect upon the cultural representations of sexual minorities (lesbian, gay, and transsexual) in Spain and to problematize the concept of community in relation to gender and/or sexualities. The event will also include the participation of the sociologist Eric Fassin (Université Paris 8), who will talk about the gay community in France, about mariage pour tous, and other current issues. In addition, Rodrigo Andrés, Isabel Clúa, Joana Masó, Helena González Fernández, Katarzyna Paszkiewicz, Andrea Ruthven, researchers from the Centre Dona i Literatura will take part, as well as Gracia Trujillo (Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha), Rosa de Diego (Universidad del País Vasco), Jorge Luis Peralta (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Alberto Mira (Oxford Brookes University). The conference will be held in Spanish, but the lecture by Eric Fassin will be in English. Please register prior to June 14.
