Caribbean Lesbian Literature from the Perspective of Queer and Decolonial Theories
Universitat de Barcelona
Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes 585 - 08007 Barcelona
Sophie Large (Université de Tours) offers the seminar entitled “Caribbean Lesbian Literature from the Perspective of Queer and Decolonial Theories”. In his speech, he reflects on the challenges and perspectives inaugurated by the lesbian-themed fiction currently produced in the Hispanic Caribbean Mainland and its diaspora, in an effort to formulate new literary proposals that contribute to making minoritized identities and sexualities visible in the present Caribbean. From a decolonial perspective, Sophie Large analyzes how these literary discourses resignify queer practices and theories. Large, a specialist in Latin American literature and translation, has published studies on Gioconda Belli, Albalucía Ángel, Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro, Rita Indiana Hernández, Guadalupe Nettel or Claudia Hernández. This seminar, co-organized by the MA in Construction and Representation of Cultural Identities (CRIC) and ADHUC, is open to the public. Activity held in Spanish.
