Aging and Masculinities
Australian-born psychologist and specialist in the analysis of gender and masculinity studies Lynne Segal (Birkbeck, University of London), will give the seminar "Aging and Masculinities". Taking her book Out of Time: The Pleasures and Perils of Aging as a starting point, the author will examine the passage of time in connection with age, analyzing the tensions and advantages it entails. She will also discuss issues surrounding the generation gap, the politics of desire and the current space of resistance of the elderly, focusing on the impact that the "aging" process has on men and masculinity. The seminar is held as part of the activities of the research project "Men in Fiction: Toward a History of Masculinity through U.S. Literature and Cinema, 20th and 21st Centuries."
