Hemos realizado un estudio genético en una cohorte de enfermos de esclerosis lateral amiotrófica (ELA) y hemos encontrado una asociación entre dos polimorfismos del gen del CX3CR1, expresado en la microglía, y el índice de progresión de la enfermedad.
Recientemente hemos demostrado que la microglía expresa el canal de calcio dependiente de voltage de tipo L y que este canal participa en el control de la secreción de citoquinas en condiciones de neuroinflamación.
También hemos encontrado que el diazoxido potencia los procesos de neurogénesis durante un lesión excitotóxica en el hipocampo de la rata. Esto indica que la activación del canal KATP microglial es importante en la regulació de la neurogénesis inducida por una lesión cerebral.
