The largest bat colony in Catalonia is the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç de Munt i l'Obac
Barcelona Provincial Council, the body that manages natural promoting the scientific study of all the protected bats, among which are colonies of bats cave. The team from the University of Barcelona-Areambiental and IRBio is directed by Jordi Serra-Cobo.
A chasm located near Mura, the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç de Munt i l'Obac, hosts the largest known colony in Catalonia bat cave (Miniopterus schereibersii) with more than 17,000individuals. Bats of our country consume large quantities of insects and help control insect pests. They also perform a vital function in epidemiological prey species of insects that can transmit diseases.
